The Battle Rages on in NC to Stop the Real ID

January 31, 2009

The battle rages on in North Carolina against the real Id and we will continue to add more members to this grassroots efforts to insist that North Carolina not only back down from complying with the unfunded federal mandate known as the Real ID, but that they also put in place protections for those of us who do have drivers likenesses and state issued identification cards.

Our elected leadership is supposed to be working for us not against us. Mandates like the Real ID put us all at a higher risk of Identity theft. Biometrics is proving easier and easier to get around. Placing our breeder documents, (Birth Certificates, social security card and other documents) into a massive database has the potential to cause more harm than good.

Police officers and federal employees who need to keep their identities protected to protect themselves and their families are not exempt from the Real ID Scheme. Just imagine if the criminal elements want to try and get some revenge, they only need to get access to the DMV systems either by hacking it or paying a corrupt or finally strapped DMV employee.

It would be just as easy and has been proven in the past that there is no such thing as a secure database. The Pentagon, the State Department, Department of Homeland Security, the White House and many other government run institutions have all had their systems hacked. We as Americans cannot expect our data to be secure. We cannot expect it to be safe, if these government entities cannot secure their own systems, then we should not expect them to be able to secure our private data.

Likewise, the State of Florida was busted for selling the photos, social security numbers, date of birth, medical information and address information to private companies located in the US and the UK. A massive lawsuit came out of if, but the only winners were the layers. The people who had their data sold will receive $1.00 each when they renew their driver's licenses. Those who want to opt out of it cannot do so but are allowed to object to the settlement. Check out the State Official Website Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicle Web Site for the details.

The only recourse an individual has in this case is they can sue the state of Florida or the companies who bought the information only if they can prove monetary losses. This of course is something that may be hard to prove and the fact you cannot ever retrieve your private data once it has been sold.

We need to unite and fight the Real ID and put protections in place for We the People. Are you ready to join? Sign up for our email alerts and tell anyone and everyone about the dangers of the Real ID.

Stop the Real ID

Anyone in NC can fight to stop the Real ID. Many of the Legislators are refusing to answer emails about their position on the Real ID. They just delete them and go about their day as if We the People do not Matter. Use the Alternative Phone number and contact them. The Real ID must be stopped.
